Corrections policy

What is corrected

We correct factual, numerical, sourcing, methodological, attribution, date, chart, translation and material wording errors.

Correction types

• **Minor fix:** spelling, grammar or formatting that does not change meaning; no dateModified change solely for this.
• **Substantive update:** new verified information or material data revision; visible update note.
• **Correction:** the publication was wrong; visible correction note.
• **Retraction/withdrawal:** the core evidence or integrity of a page fails; page remains with an explanation where legally and safely possible.

Correction note

A correction states:

• what was wrong;
• the correct information;
• when it was corrected;
• supporting source;
• which text/data/chart changed;
• whether the conclusion changed;
• prevention action where useful.

Data corrections

A corrected source or calculation creates an immutable revision/correction record. Download files and structured data are updated consistently.

Reader reports

Readers may report errors through the Contact and Complaints page. We verify reports rather than changing material solely because a party objects.

No stealth editing

We do not silently replace a materially wrong number, quote or implication. We do not remove a correction because the corrected page now reads properly.

Appeals

A person or institution affected by a material claim may provide evidence. The editorial reviewer documents the decision. Commercial status does not influence the outcome.
